The Rocky Road to Santa Fe

The following is a chronicling of my nominally epic journey to Santa Fe.

4:00 p.m. SLC Utah - I naively assumed things would go swimmingly on the journey and began what I thought would be a routine blog post . . . poor misguided soul that I was

Hiyo all, DW here in the Salt Lake City airport awaiting my departure.  While I will leave having experienced neither an attempted conversion (color me surprised) nor the incredible buoyancy of The Great Salt Lake (which in the esteem of most locals is reknown only for its smell), I do depart a great deal more knowledgeable than I was when I arrived.  What's more I made some great friends in the process, and given how small the world of Voice Habilitation seems to be I will undoubtedly be meeting them again in the not too distant future.

Well as I am brain addled from attending a phonosurgery conference for the past 2 days I will resort to my usual strategy of bombarding you with pictures.  Enjoy!

5:15 p.m. SLC Utah - I board the plan which seems to be running a smidge late, but I have a 45 minute layover so all will be well . . .

6:55 p.m. Denver Colorado - Landed 5 minutes ahead of schedule.  I knowingly chuckle at my earlier worries.*ominous thunder clap*

7:00 p.m. Denver Colorado - We are stuck waiting on the tarmac looking at the gate we are supposed to be going to, B57, which is currently occupied by another plane.  We are assured the plane will be moving soon.

7:20 p.m. Denver Colorado - Still sitting.  I've checked and my next flight is on time due to depart in 20 minutes.  Fortunately it is leaving from gate B59 right next to where we will disembark. *attempted serenity*

7:33 p.m. Denver Colorado - The plane in B57 starts to move and we back away to give it space . . . only we keep going.  The captain announces that we will be going to gate B89 instead. *cue nervous tapping of feet*

7:33:16 p.m. Denver Colorado -  @#$^&*!#@$!!!

7:37 p.m. Denver Colorado - The jetbridge is having trouble. Joy. They manage some MacGuyver like fix and I disembark the plan, grab my gate checked carry on and RUN to get to gate B59.

7:42 p.m. Denver Colorado - I arrive at the gate wheezing from trying to run while carrying an overstuffed backpack and carry-on, and am rewarded with a missing plane and a sassy gate attendent. I rue my former hubris.

8:15 p.m. Denver Colorado - After chatting with my friends in Santa Fe I wade through the purgatory that is the customer service line for United Airlines, and get scheduled on a 10:30 pm flight to Albuquerque.

8:30 p.m. Denver Coloardo - I find a bit of consolation in a beer at the New Belgium Brewery restaurant in the airport, and in that knowledge that while I will be in the airport longer at least my luggage will have time to make the connection.

11:30 p.m. Albuquerque NM - We land on time, and my friend Chad has made the schlep down from Santa Fe.  I meet up with him after disembarking, and we go to grab my bag so we can head out.

11:45 p.m. Albuquerque NM - My luggage doesn't arrive. I am assured that the bag will be going to Santa Fe in the morning.  Delightful.

1:00 p.m. Santa Fe NM - We arrive at the house having heard a strange dragging sound for the last few miles . . . Yeah I broke the car too.

1:15 p.m. Santa Fe NM - The rather epic trip pays off as I sit down in a lovely living room with a glass of wine, to chat with two of my best friends Chad and Brenda.

===========================================

At this point I've been in Santa Fe for a little over a day, and have tooled about the town and heard Brenda's AMAZING American premier with Santa Fe, Opera.  I'll fill you in on the rest of the details of my time here in New Mexico and my upcoming trip to Portland to meet my new nephew in my next installment.  For now here are some pictures of food, friends, and pretty views from my last weeks in SLC.
